午餐时，我在博物馆咖啡厅小憩，一份三明治约8镑，味道平实但环境优雅。建议避开周末高峰，平日午后人流较少，体验更佳。博物馆商店的纪念品琳琅满目，一本精美的艺术画册约15镑，值得带回留念。

第二:里面没有风扇或者空调这一类的制冷设施，这使得夏天的时候里面非常炎热，也没有什么通风设施，我认为这可能会引发安全问题（例如火灾）

那就在某个清晨人少的时候，午后有温暖的光照进来的时候，或黄昏昏暗多了些什么的时候，来此走走吧☕️Amos M — Google review晨光透过自然史博物馆宏伟的维多利亚式拱窗，洒在悬于欣茨大厅上方的蓝鲸骨架上，那一刻，仿佛整座建筑都在呼吸。我随着人流步入这座科学的圣殿，32米长的梁龙骨架“迪皮”虽已不在原处，但蓝鲸“希望”那优雅而庞大的弧形骨架，同样以无声的语言讲述着生命的壮阔与脆弱。

穿过人群，我径直走向最富盛名的恐龙展厅。那里，一具霸王龙复原模型正发出低沉的咆哮并灵活转动身躯，逼真得让人心头一颤。旁边的地震模拟器则让我亲身感受了大地颤抖的瞬间，紧紧抓住扶手时，才对自然之力有了更深的敬畏。随后，我在地球宝藏厅流连，那些璀璨的岩石与宝石，尤其是那块传说中带着“诅咒”的德里紫蓝宝石，为其背后的故事更添几分神秘色彩。

This museum and garden in Forest Hill, South London, is free and family-friendly.

The garden features many benches and shaded areas, making it a great place to relax. There is also a beautiful sunken garden that invites exploration and leisurely strolls.

You can find exhibitions on musical instruments, natural history, and anthropology. Additionally, there is a butterfly house and a small aquarium that visitors can enjoy for a fee.

It was my first time at this museum and I really enjoyed my visit.

It is quite small but has a very good selection of historical artifacts. The world section was good. The music room was incredible. There were so many different instruments displayed. You don't have to pay to enter the museum but there sections you need a paid ticket to view like the aquarium and the butterfly garden or greenhouse. I only visited the aquarium on this visit. I bought a ticket from the reception, it was only £6 which was good. The aquarium was in the basement floor and was nice. They had a good selection of sea life, that were amazing to see. I think the last time for entry on both the butterfly house and the aquarium is 4 or 4:30 pm.

I didn't make it to the zoo and did not even realise they had it until later. Hopefully I'll see it next time.

I loved the gardens and I'm glad I came during the summer to experience it's beauty. Overall it was a great way to spend the afternoon. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I thought it was a littler smaller than suggested online, but they are doing some improvements at the moment, so that's probably why. We booked the butterfly house, aquarium and robot zoo in advance. We were late because of an issue on trains but they still let us in as it was a quiet day and couldn't be helped. We were amazed at the variety of butterflies. The robot zoo was definitely smaller than expected. LOVED IT! Such a Gem in South London. Family orientated and a Cafe on site. The Museum itself with the other events such aa Aquarium, Robin Zoo, Butterfly House truly gives a full fun day of exploring. Op weg van Londen naar Windsor hebben we besloten hier op bezoek te gaan. De auto hebben we geparkeerd achter de Sainsbury’s zoals op hun site als tip wordt gegeven. This feels more like a 'grown up' museum rather than one for kids. It has lots of items in the exhibits, with the vast majority being behind screens. There's a couple of 'phones' where you can listen to some stories about the displays but one didn't work for us. It did have a 'trail' for half term but there wasn't anything particularly interactive about the displays. It could have an activity to create an advert/own brand.

We went in the Thunderbirds exhibition (reason we went). There were a lot of items all together which was cool and my son (8) enjoyed looking at them as he really likes Thunderbirds. Again a looking at things through glass type exhibit (with the exception of the big thunderbird 3) which I get given the type of items.

The Museum of Brands not only created a real feeling of nostalgia, seeing games and toys that my Nan and grandad had from my parents’ era and the eras around it, but it did a brilliant job of talking about culture over time and it’s shaped technology and brands, and vice versa. Pleasantly surprised! Wasn't expecting much but the mail rail was fun and interesting and the separate exhibition was excellently put together and really engaging.

Accessibility is great for everything apart from the actual mail rail train (inherently) and they require that in an emergency you can climb stairs unaided. This building is separate from the mail rail which is on the other side of the road. The postal museum runs through the history of the Post from the 17th century to the present date. Fascinating look at the life and lifestyle of Charles Dickens at the Charles Dickens home on Doughty Street. It was really fascinating waking through his home having just been at Mark Twain's home. While the two never met, Twain was a great admirer of Dickens and even took his wife to see Dickens perform.

The two homes were occupied by the writers around the same time, but they were significantly different in terms of decor and modernity.

Dickens had no plumbing (chamber pots and toilet chairs) while Twain had 4 ensuite bathrooms and gas lighting throughout the house.

The furnishings of Dickens home were rather austere, especially compared to the opulence of Twain's home with its custom made sideboard, poster bed with angel carvings, and fireplace mantle.

There is an elevator for those with mobility issues, otherwise there are several steps to get to each floor.

Small but fascinating museum. I bought my ticket upon arrival. It's located at the top of a building that requires you to climb a nearly vertical spiral staircase, so not accessible unfortunately. Even though it's not very big it has a ton to see. A word of warning, there is some mild gore and vivid descriptions about surgical procedures, so be forewarned if you're squeamish about that sort of thing. Otherwise I would highly recommend. The Old Operating Theatre is a compact museum, but fascinating. As someone interested in medical technology, I couldn’t resist visiting, and it didn’t disappoint. The RA has a talent for presenting thoughtful and well-curated shows, and their showcase of Mrinalini Mukherjee and Her Circle was no exception.

A beautiful day out was had at this hidden museum. I had no idea what to expect but we saw more than we had anticipated. Rated 4* as wish I knew more about what was happening and then paid in advance to attend. Spent a lovely three hours during the morning at this museum. Really interesting exhibit with lots of information about the docks and River Thames history. Plenty of little films about the history and workers at the docks. I love that the building is part of the historic fabric of the building. It was free to enter the permanent collections on the docks, World Wars, and trade throughout the eras starting in the early 19th Century. There’s also a Sainsbury study area. And during my visit there was a couple of paid for exhibitions, one of which was in my darling. The shop has some really good products, so I purchased a couple of books. There are lockers behind the stairs in the ground floor. You’ll need a pound coin or get a token. Lots of toilets on several floors, and a lift to each floor. On the ground floor you’ll ding a shop and a cafe! Staff are really helpful, knowledgeable and professional. One went off to check some info before handing it over. And there’s lots of books in the Sainsbury study centre. You’ll also find a cafe and gift shop on the ground floor, and I was even invited to take a free medical but didn’t have enough time to do so. We had a great little experience here, although I will say it's a little short, and there's an awful lot of reading to get through. The Museum does a fantastic job of going in to the nitty-gritty detail of how disgusting life at the clink was, especially the section that goes into the torture devices.

There is an amazing little ugly rat creature on the walls who explains torture in nice little blurbs that I believe are targeted for children (such as Mary banning green wood to use for executions as it caused victims to pass out and she wanted them to experience as much pain as possible in dying.) I think this is actually really awesome in its bizarreness. So yes, I don't recommend spending money here, but if you find you have money you want to spend or you've already spent it, enjoy what the place has to offer. Exhibitions are all free and are a fascinating blend of science and thought provoking art. It's a free museum with free interesting exhibitions. I went to The Reading Room expecting it to be quiet but it was not so. I was told by their staff that people are allowed to talk, laugh and make noise in The Reading Room. One woman brought her toddler into The Reading Room and treated it like a creche. Leighton House Museum had been on my wish list for quite some time, and it more than lived up to expectations. Surprisingly, I knew very little about the Victorian artist Frederic Leighton beforehand, though I immediately recognised some of his work as we wandered through his extraordinary home.

When we bought our tickets, I asked the staff where best to begin. The member of staff was wonderfully helpful, suggesting that newcomers either start in the basement with a short introductory film or explore the house first for a more immediate surprise. We chose the film, and although it revealed a few glimpses of what was to come, I’m glad we did, it gave us valuable context about Leighton’s life and artistry, enriching the experience that followed.

Every room was a delight, filled with exquisite furnishings and decorated in a mix of artistic styles, including Leighton’s own meticulously crafted works. My personal highlight was the extension housing the breathtaking Arab Hall. We lingered there for quite a while, taking in the intricate details and chatting with a knowledgeable volunteer who shared even more insight.

After thoroughly exploring the house, we enjoyed drinks and cake in the charming autumnal garden. (I highly recommend the apple shortbread - delicious!) It was fascinating to learn that Leighton House was part of a circle of artists’ homes, though unfortunately, most of the others aren’t open to the public. Sambourne House, however, is linked to the museum, and I plan to visit there in the future.

We also had the chance to enjoy a small visiting exhibition tucked behind the video room, which sparked lively conversation among my friends as we each picked out favourites and compared styles.

Overall, Leighton House is a captivating blend of art, architecture, and history, and it made for a thoroughly memorable day out.

I had been looking forward to a visit of the gallery for a long time, and it was indeed a beautiful studio-home of the most acclaimed Victorian Academician painter.

However, there was some filming work going on that disturbed visitors, with a lot of filming equipment all over the rooms. The staff did not warn me, and later did not make any explanation of this. I felt if people paid to see the house they should have been notified at least for the ongoing work. (They even uninstalled some exhibits!)

The introductory video downstairs was very explanatory and useful for understanding Leighton and his status in Victorian art world.

Tickets are not required unless it has an exhibition within the Young V&A. In this case it was the Egyptian Exhibition. My 6yo daughter was free but I paid 10quid for a ticket. The ticket grants multiple entries (no further payment required) into the exhibition until it ends. So it worth it! The elite part of MT in my opinion must the journey in “The Spirit of London”. Honestly speaking, it’s more interesting for tourists who aren’t very familiar with stars in film,sport and other fields to experience it. By the way, the introduction card of partial stars are not conscious. Fantastic museum featuring rooms decorated as they would have been throughout the ages from the 1600s onwards. Some of the rooms had era appropriate noises and sound effects too which added to the feeling that you were stepping back through time. Each room has a wealth of information available about living in that time as well as detailed notes on items within the rooms.

The gardens are also very pretty and peaceful.

Lovely free museum / art installations detailing what ‘Home’ is through the years. Spent around 2 hours or so here and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I would say it’s probably not the best place to bring young children for a day, there’s lots of reading and they might find it boring. There are a few fun tactile things for children however (kitchen play set, couple bits of dress up, garden) so it’s a good place to kill some time in a warm nice place! The gardens were class! The Garden Museum was a letdown. The nave itself is pleasant and free to walk through, which is probably the highlight. But paying to see a handful of gardening tools and photo displays felt overpriced and underwhelming.

We grabbed a takeaway coffee, and the service matched the vibe—indifferent. The waitress barely looked up and just pointed, saying “stand over there.” Not exactly welcoming.

The biggest disappointment, though, was the gardens. For a place with “garden” in its name, you’d expect something well-kept or at least interesting. Instead, they looked neglected—I’d be surprised if there’s a groundskeeper at all.

Housed in St Mary’s Church, Lambeth is a the wonderful Garden Museum and Cafe. Specific exhibitions curated throughout the year. Good facilities for children, craft/drawing table, small ‘home’ play area, high chairs in cafe.

The Garden Cafe menu looked great (see photos) and although we didn’t eat, we did sample the biscuits baked on the premises (choc chip and ginger/oat ‘Parkin’ biscuits) which were absolutely delicious! A crisp bite on the outside, soft but not too gooey or sweet inside. We will definitely return for lunch next time we visit for a further exhibition.

Facilities were spotless and a small shop sells books, cards and small gardening tools, twine etc.

Well worth the climb of 131 steps to a viewing platform with fantastic views over London (see photos) is an added bonus. The steps are uneven, tightly packed and circular with barely any passing space and no resting places, therefore may not be suitable or comfortable for some.

What a beautiful and intriguing space! Beautiful use of a Church to maintain so many of its original features whilst converting use to educate and illustrate a history of gardening in UK. A lovely museum with lots of history and stuff to see. Unfortunately I can only give it 2 stars because they don't let you eat at there cafe unless you have a reservation and I would like to think if you pay to visit there museum you should have a right to get somethink to eat and a coffee. Also you pass is only for the day and not a year like some of the other museums in Central London and the indoor garden is small and very busy because it is a cafe too. The Jewish museum is a hidden gem of a museum.

It is important to check the museum website for opening times and tickets etc.

As a non Jew I found the museum a treasure trove of Jewish life and history on this island.

Of interest is the exhibition of the lived experience of Judaism in the UK. And the important contribution of Jews to British life. An essential part of the solero of British life history.

The Holocaust is narrated through the eyes of a British Jew who found himself and his wife caught up in the madness of antisemitism. His testimony is moving as are the artifacts of life in these camps.

I really enjoyed my visit here and learnt alot about the history and culture of Jews in Britain from the first settlers who came over in 1066. The entry price is very fair, £8.50 Adult and £6.50 concession.

The museum itself has three floors each with a different aspect of Jewish culture. The top floor is currently dedicated to the artistic work of Charlotte Salomon describing her life through a chronological set of paintings.

The 2nd floor is devoted to the history and culture associated with Jewish settlement in England and is the core of this museum. It also houses a section on the holocaust.

The Charlotte Salomon temporary exhibition was the most moving and profound exhibition I've experienced. Well spaced and annotated. A must see before it closes on March 1 2020.

The permanent exhibition on Jewish belief and customs and Jewish history in Britain was also comprehensive and very informative.

Fabulous gem of a museum- always buy tickets in advance as I travel up to London for the exhibition. The Cosprop exhibition was another fantastic well curated offering - brilliant idea to put all the details in a free booklet meant people could enjoy without standing for ages in front of lots of writing. Visited the British Art Fair this September and was really impressed by the quality of work they exhibited. Not only do we get to see some traditional classical works. But there is a great number of digital art at the section called Digitalism. Totally creative, expressive and inspiring in many ways. The creators are so eager to interact with visitors sharing stories behind, which is so valuable and different from other fairs like Affordable Art Fair, Frieze, London Art Fair. The whole visit is so enjoyable and memorable 😊

Highly recommend.

The venue however is not so easy to go around and ventilation must get better if they care about visitors’ user experience. Beautiful house only lit with candles and warmed with fireplaces. You really got a sense of how people lived and the interiors were so beautifully decorated with lots of attention to small details and Christmas decorations. The guides did provide some information but I wish we had a longer talk at the start to explain the vision of the house, the different timelines of the different rooms and more information about Dennis and his family. A lot of context was missing about Dennis’ family and the fictional family. The silent Christmas visits are wonderful - having recently been for a "relaxed" weekend visit my only plea would be to make these visits silent too! I managed to get a walk up ticket on the day and because I’m disabled I got discount £12.50 for me to get in.I did the relaxed visit so was able to talk a little bit to a couple who came in with me. Plenty of guides at hand to answer questions and point you along, plus the chap outside gave us a little chat. Photography is not allowed inside and you will be asked to put your phone on silent. My favourite room is the one at the back with the large portrait of Queen Victoria that you visit last. I also liked the Charles Dickens corner very much. The reasons I knocked a star off is because one of the rooms was too dark to see anything and in one of the other rooms I could not see the big painting properly because it was too dark. Also I bought a set of 10 postcards in the little gift shop which cost £15 which I thought was a bit steep. We recently visited the National Army Museum in Chelsea, and it was an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The museum itself is spacious, bright, and beautifully laid out, making it a very comfortable place to explore — especially if you’re visiting with elderly family members or those with additional needs.

I went with an elderly relative living with dementia, and the visit couldn’t have gone better. Everything was clear, accessible, and thoughtfully designed, with wide entrances, plenty of seating areas, and engaging displays that held attention without overwhelming. The use of bright colours and clear signage made it easy to navigate and enjoy at our own pace.

The café was also lovely, serving great food and drinks in a relaxed setting. What really stood out, though, was the kindness and professionalism of the staff — every single person we spoke to was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help with anything we needed.

Quite a unique experience. Not sure how and when it is open normally, as we have visited as part of the Open House Festival for free. It’s not huge, just two rooms - one with a bit about what the mithraeum is and what we know about it, the other is the actual temple (what is left of it) with a short immersive experience of how it would have sounded back then. The London Mithraeum was an interesting experience with its well-preserved ruins and informative audio guide. The historical artifacts and layout provide a good glimpse into the ancient Roman temple. A very interesting find! Free to visit. Disabled friendly - (even has a lift!). Such fascinating history; what has been preserved is amazing! Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the history. The lower level where the immersion show is good to see as you hear the Latin talk/chanting and listen to narration on the cult. Another amazing piece of history nestled in London! Really loved the immersive experience with the sounds and the dimmed lights that heighten your senses! Taken down in groups we didn’t realise you can book free tickets online but we came on the day and had no issues getting in. I visited Benjamin Franklin House this year, not my first visit, and most certainly not my last. It truly exceeds expectations.

Opened to the public on 17 January 2006, it’s the world’s only surviving home of Benjamin Franklin—not just a museum, but a living educational space.

Originally built as a lodging house, the building later served as a hotel and home to various non-profit organizations throughout the 20th century.

By the late 1990s, when the Friends of Benjamin Franklin House were granted the freehold by the British government, the property was in serious disrepair.

Their dedicated work, alongside volunteers and partner organizations, transformed it into a dynamic museum and learning center that highlights both the timeless relevance of Franklin and the turbulent era in which he lived.

Franklin is certainly the most famous resident of 36 Craven Street, but the house itself has a rich and fascinating history. Today, visitors can explore his London years through the Historical Experience, Architectural Tours, and a lively calendar of events.

Their free education program is especially impressive, bringing Franklin’s science and Georgian London to life for children both on-site and in classrooms.

For nearly sixteen years (1757–1775), Franklin—scientist, diplomat, philosopher, inventor, and Founding Father—called this house home.

While he came to London as a colonial diplomat, his time here spanned far more than politics.

In my humble opinion, this is a must-see for any American visiting London from across the pond.

It’s a place of genuine historic significance, especially in the story of early Anglo-American relations. And who knows—maybe a little revolutionary spirit still lingers here for British visitors too.

Extraordinary experience. We did not know the house was closed on that Thursday but they answered our knock. Bryce, an intern and recent college grad from the States gave us an excellent tour. He loves Franklin and knew much about him and the importance of this residence, the only original home of Franklin's in existence in the world. Many well known diplomats and eventual Founders of America spent many hours and days in the spaces of this home..... Many consider the place America's first defacto embassy.

Worst tour and experience I've ever had for a tour. The vidoes did not play most of the time so we stood or sat there listening to audio programing with little undersatding of what was happening. Our guide left us in rooms after tue tour completed and made the situation awkward. Never got to see the instrumwnt he made or any if the cool pics other reviewers have posted. Please read in full as it is a mixed feelings here: I visited the place today as they mentioned a jubilee special event. It turned out not to be that "special" as almost nothing about the Crown was mentioned. I joined the architect tour. The guide is knowledgeable but i find one thing a little bit absurd. You have an hour for the tour then the next tour follows immediately after that so you had to leave. it left you no time for reflection. That is not how i normally visit a museum as you would like to submerge yourself in that surroundings and feel that immersive feeling, listening to history echoing towards your eardrums. You got none of that, you have to go. When i asked whether we would be left ten minutes to look around, the guide said, "this is a grade one listed building so you can imaging we cant leave alone in there." it is her response that really completely erased my perception about her knowledge. Hello, V&A is a grade 1 listed building, so is St Paul's Cathedral, so are many many churches, so is Spencer House, so is Handel House Museum etc. etc. There are over 9,000 Grade I listed buildings in England! This is the first one i have visited that i felt i was driven out of the door. You took the money from us, we signed a TOR, if you think people would vandalise this place, shame on you on human morals and integrity. I gave a three star because the tour is informative and people are welcoming but how the things are handled is sub-optimal. sorry. I never realised such things happen in England. The house itself is fairly bare, but they did well in telling of his life via an interactive video and costumed tour guide experience that takes you through 4-5 rooms. It gives an understanding of his life, why in London, people he interacted with, and the house itself. The guides/workers were very kind and helpful in answering questions.

If looking for something historical but a little different than the usual tourist places in London it’s a good 50 minute stop within a 2-3 minute walk of Charing Cross and Trafalgar Square.
